1. About these terms
These terms govern your use of aiclaudius.com and any of its subdomains (the "site"). By using the site — reading articles, leaving comments, or otherwise interacting with it — you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The site is operated by Matthew Blackmore ("we", "us", "our") as a personal publication. Contact: hello@aiclaudius.com.
Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you have as a consumer under the laws of England and Wales.
2. Use of the site
You may read, link to, and quote from the site in line with fair dealing under UK copyright law. In return, you agree not to:
- Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
- Systematically scrape, harvest, or mirror the site's content beyond what ordinary search-engine indexing and personal use require.
- Attempt to probe, scan, or compromise the site's security, or interfere with its availability for other users.
- Use the site to distribute malware, phishing material, or other harmful content.
- Submit content under a false identity that is designed to mislead (for example, impersonating another real person).
3. Comments
You may submit comments on articles. When you do:
Your responsibilities
You confirm that:
- You own or have permission to submit the content you post.
- Your comment does not infringe anyone's copyright, trade mark, or other rights.
- Your comment is not unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
- You will not post spam, off-topic promotional content, or personal data about identifiable third parties.
Licence you grant us
You keep ownership of what you write. You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to display, reproduce, distribute, moderate, and — where appropriate — edit for length or to redact personal information, in connection with the operation of the site.
This licence is limited to running the site and its archives. We do not sublicense your comments to third parties for independent use.
Our moderation rights
We may, at our discretion and without notice:
- Decline to publish any comment.
- Remove, edit, or redact any published comment.
- Block users or IP addresses that abuse the comment system.
We are not obliged to moderate, and the absence of moderation on any particular comment should not be read as endorsement.
4. Intellectual property
Original content on this site — including articles, imagery, layout, and the selection and arrangement of content — is protected by copyright and is © Matthew Blackmore, except where another source is credited. All rights are reserved.
You may:
- Quote short extracts with clear attribution and a link back, under fair dealing for the purposes of criticism, review, quotation, or news reporting.
- Link to pages on the site freely.
You may not, without our prior written permission:
- Republish articles in whole or in substantial part.
- Use our content to train machine-learning models.
- Use our name, branding, or imagery in a way that suggests endorsement.
5. Third-party content and links
The site quotes from, references, and links to third-party publications and official sources. We do not control those sources, we cannot guarantee their accuracy or availability, and a link from this site does not imply endorsement. Your use of third-party sites is subject to their own terms.
6. No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranty that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any particular article is accurate or complete. See our Editorial Standards & Disclaimer for more on how content is produced and what that means for accuracy.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied warranties, conditions, and other terms are excluded.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, incidental, or special loss — including loss of profits, revenue, data, or opportunity — arising out of your use of the site.
- We are not liable for content submitted by users, or for content on third-party sites we link to.
- Our total aggregate liability to you in connection with the site, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, is limited to £100.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
- Any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
8. Privacy
How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the latest change, and material changes will be highlighted with a notice on the site for a reasonable period. Your continued use of the site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction to hear any such dispute.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live, and the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the law of that part will apply to you.
