KPMG Puts Claude in Front of 276,000 Employees

KPMG and Anthropic have announced a global strategic alliance that puts Claude directly inside the platform KPMG's people and clients already use to do the work. The headline number is 276,000 employees across 138 countries, gaining access at once.

The deal, announced on 19 May 2026, ranks among the largest enterprise AI deployments to date in professional services. It is also not a separate chat product bolted on the side. Claude is being woven into Digital Gateway, KPMG's Microsoft Azure platform that already combines proprietary tax insights, internal tools, and client data in one environment.

Rema Serafi, vice chair of tax at KPMG US, told reporters that tasks which "used to take weeks and required teams to switch between multiple tools" now take "minutes" using the new integration. The first wave of Claude-powered workflows is going to tax and legal teams, with cybersecurity work close behind.

The private equity angle

The most strategically interesting piece of the alliance is private equity. Anthropic has named KPMG its preferred partner for PE work, and the two firms will jointly develop Claude-powered products aimed at portfolio companies.

KPMG is bringing its own offering to that fight. The firm has rolled out KPMG Blaze, a service that embeds Claude Code to help portfolio companies modernise legacy systems and deploy AI tooling without long greenfield builds. Winbuzzer reports the full Microsoft Azure implementation is targeted for completion by September 2026.

Anthropic's professional services push

The KPMG deal continues a pattern. Anthropic already has an expanded partnership with PwC, which is using Claude to build technology and deliver client work. Add KPMG and the picture sharpens: Anthropic is going after the Big Four with offers that reach hundreds of thousands of seats at once, rather than picking off mid-market customers one division at a time.

The pricing of those deals is not public. The competitive logic is. Each Big Four firm that commits to Claude inside its core delivery platform is a firm that is not, at least not for those workflows, defaulting to OpenAI or Google.

What is actually being shipped

The alliance launches with two named Anthropic capabilities embedded in Digital Gateway: Claude Cowork, which sits alongside knowledge workers as a collaborative agent, and Managed Agents, which run longer-horizon tasks under enterprise governance. Cybersecurity work is the next pillar, with joint KPMG and Anthropic teams looking at how Claude can find and remediate system vulnerabilities under KPMG's Trusted AI framework.
