Most robotics coverage fixes on the humanoids that walk on stage at splashy launches. The more telling story at IFA 2026 in Berlin was quieter: a chip company, D-Robotics, showing the silicon that a growing number of home robots now run on.
D-Robotics builds the Sunrise line of AI chips, which span a wide range of processing power, from small 5 TOPS parts up to 560 TOPS for heavier workloads. TOPS, or trillions of operations per second, is a rough gauge of how much on-device AI a chip can handle. The company says more than 100,000 developers across 20 countries build on its platform, and it lists partners including Bosch Sensortec, TCL, Midea and UBTech.
Three robots, three jobs
Rather than a single flagship, D-Robotics leaned on the products its chips already sit inside. TCL brought the hey AiMe, pitched as a family companion and education robot, with autonomous navigation, expressive movement across ten degrees of freedom, and more than 20 sensors. Vbot made the European debut of its SuperDog, a robot dog that has been in mass production and, the company says, has reached thousands of homes since May. And xLean showed the TR1, a floor-washing robot that recently raised 2 million dollars on Kickstarter from more than 2,000 backers.
The three do not have much in common beyond the chip inside them, and that is the point. A companion robot, a robot dog and a floor scrubber sit at very different price points and ask very different things of their hardware. The pitch is that a single chip family can scale across all of them, which is what lets a small manufacturer ship a robot without designing its brain from scratch.
Why this matters more than another humanoid demo
Consumer robots have a long history of impressive demonstrations followed by products that never ship, or ship and disappoint. What is different now is the layer underneath. Cheap, capable AI chips aimed squarely at the home turn robotics from a research project into something closer to an appliance business, where the hard parts are cost, reliability and the boring work of manufacturing at volume.
That shift echoes what has been happening in robot brains as much as robot bodies, from models that learn a task from a single video to the large sums flowing into humanoid startups. None of the three robots on the D-Robotics stand will change the world on its own. Taken together, they hint at a near future where a robot in the house is unremarkable, and the interesting competition is over the chip that makes it affordable.
