Jeff Bezos is reportedly close to closing a $10 billion funding round for a secretive AI startup, according to a Bloomberg report from April 21. The company, code-named Project Prometheus, would be valued at $38 billion. JPMorgan and BlackRock are among the investors said to be participating.
Project Prometheus is focused on building AI models that understand the physical world, a research direction that sits between large language models and robotics. Bezos has not described the lab's specific methods publicly. It has operated in stealth since its founding.
The round would position Bezos as a significant independent player in AI, separate from Amazon and AWS, both of which have their own substantial AI commitments. Amazon has invested billions in Anthropic over the past two years. Project Prometheus would be Bezos's personal bet, outside that corporate structure entirely.
At $38 billion before any public announcement, the valuation puts the lab in the same tier as Anthropic, which raised at $61 billion in early 2025. The size of the round reflects how aggressively capital is being deployed across AI in 2026. Whether Project Prometheus has produced research or models yet is unclear; Bloomberg's reporting indicates the fundraise is still being finalized.
