Avoca, a startup building AI voice agents for field service businesses, announced a $125 million funding round on April 27 at a $1 billion valuation. The Series B was led by Meritech Capital and General Catalyst. The company's total raised now exceeds $125 million across three rounds.

The company targets what it calls America's services economy: HVAC technicians, plumbers, roofers, auto shops, and moving companies. These are businesses that live and die by the phone, and most cannot afford a full-time receptionist for every shift. Avoca's AI voice agents handle inbound calls, schedule appointments, follow up with past customers, and run marketing outreach automatically.

According to the official announcement, Avoca's agents have already handled millions of customer interactions for field service operators. The company reports measurable improvements in booking rates and customer retention for businesses on the platform.

The round is a concrete example of something AI investors have been predicting for several years: that the first genuinely successful agent deployments would not be in white-collar knowledge work but in high-volume voice and scheduling tasks in blue-collar industries. A plumbing business cannot afford a missed call at 11pm on a Saturday. An AI that never sleeps and never misses an appointment is a real operational advantage in that context, not a theoretical one.

The $1 billion valuation places Avoca among a small group of AI agent companies that have moved from promising demos to actual enterprise contracts at scale. Most AI agent startups remain pre-revenue or early-stage. Avoca's fundraise suggests at least one version of the AI agent thesis is paying off in practice.

The field services market is large enough to support it. The US HVAC industry alone generates roughly $100 billion annually. If AI voice agents can capture the customer communication layer across home services broadly, the addressable market is substantial.
